* This is a temporary, non-tenure track position fully supported by extramural funds. Appointment is expected to made for one year, with possible renewal for successive years, subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Anticipated start date is June 1, 2012, or as soon thereafter as possible.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in cosmochemistry (the microanalysis of meteorites, extraterrestrial dust and returned samples) and materials science. We seek a researcher with strong interest and experience in the analysis of materials using scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). Expertise in focused ion beam (FIB) sample preparation is also desirable.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Ph.D. in planetary science, materials science, or a closely-related field, at least 5 years of experience in operating a state-of-the-art (S)TEM, and a demonstrated record of extramural research funding, publications, and research productivity which has resulted in significant recognition by the national or international community of scholars active in the same field.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Interest in collaborating in cross-disciplinary and cross-instrument materials science research.
