General funds, pending authorization to fill, to begin approximately August 1, 2012.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teaching responsibilities in an upper level undergraduate course and a graduate course in the individual's specialty.
2. Provide academic advising to undergraduates.
3. Supervise the research of graduate students, undergraduate students, and post-doctoral fellows.
4. Seek extramural funding from federal and private sources.
5. Maintain an active research program.
6. Publish research at a rate appropriate for specific field.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Ph.D. from a college of university of recognized standing in Biology or related field.
2. Evidence of excellence in teaching across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
3. A minimum of four years of full-time college or university teaching at an institution of high academic reputation at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent with evidence of increasing professional maturity research productivity which has resulted in significant recognition by the national or international community of scholars active in the same field.
4. Demonstrated continuing participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of an university or other appropriate organization, or in an appropriate professional society or organization or in other appropriate job-related service activities.
5. Demonstrated ability to plan and organize assigned activities, including the supervision of work of assistants when appropriate.
6. Ability to undertake a variety of assignments within the University.
7. Demonstrated capacity for leadership in the department and scholarly discipline.
8. Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Extensive record of scientific publication in leading professional journals and extramural research funding.
2. A research program that can take advantage of the biota of Hawaii.
