Duties and Responsibilities

1. To conduct research directed to the establishment of novel gene therapeutic approaches for the central nervous system
2. Assist in establishing and preparing primary monocyte-macrophage cultures from human whole blood and mouse blood and bone marrow, and other neuronal cell cultures, viral vector-design, molecular construction and vector production, and viral vector mediated gene transfer into these cultures
3. Evaluate and determine transgene expression in vitro cell cultures and in vivo small lab animals as a model using quantitative DNA and RNA analytic techniques including qPCR and multiplex genetic analysis system
4. Perform cryosection of mouse brain and other tissues and conduct immunological and immunohistochemistry assays to verify quantitatively the expression of transgene in the brain of test animals
5. Analyze therapeutic potential of transgene products and their adverse effect in vivo transgenic mice.
6. Assist in preparing research progress reports, meeting presentations, and analyzing experimental data and writing peer-review manuscripts for publications
7. Participate to train new graduates and undergraduates in laboratory techniques and be willing to participate and support general laboratory management

Minimum Qualifications

1. Masters degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Virology or related area.
2. Strong background in animal tissue culture, virology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular biology.
3. Knowledge in working with laboratory animals.

Desirable Qualifications

1. PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Virology or related area.
2. 2 years or more experience in a molecular biology or immunology lab with good training and knowledge in working and handling laboratory mice.
3. A productive publication record.
4. Excellent-English-written skill.
