* Continuous recruitment until needs are met; applications received on or before the first review date of December 5, 2011 will be given priority; general funded, non-tenure, beginning immediately, pending position clearance, annually renewable subject to availability of funds and actual staffing requirements pending position clearance, position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Under general supervision, design, deliver, and assess instruction in terms of student learning outcomes in medical-surgical nursing;
2. develop and/or update course content and materials and teaching and assessment strategies and methods to:
3. 1) improve learning outcomes;
4. 2) address the learning needs of the College's diverse students;
5. 3) integrate thinking and writing skills into course content where appropriate;
6. and 4) use multi-media resources, including computers, where appropriate.
7. Perform other teaching-related duties that include, but are not limited to, preparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about course work.
8. Regular workload is Monday through Friday but may include evening and weekend classes, continuing education classes, distance education classes, and teaching at off-campus sites.
9. Non-teaching duties include 1) working collegially to provide service to the department and college;
10. 2) engaging in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise;
11. and 3) engaging in professional development and professional or scholarly activities related to one's discipline or teaching.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least three years of hospital experience in one of the areas of teaching responsibility (Medical Surgical Nursing or Perioperative Nursing).
2. Preferably this experience will have been gained within the last 5 years of date of application;
3. and RN eligible for Hawaii State License;
4. and license required by effective date of employment.
5. Master's degree in Nursing and at least one year of hospital experience in one of the areas of teaching responsibility (Medical Surgical Nursing or Perioperative Nursing).
6. Preferably this experience will have been gained within the last 5 years of date of application;
7. and RN eligible for Hawaii State License;
8. and license required by effective date of employment.
9. If qualified applicants are not available, others will be considered on an Acting Instructor basis.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Education or experience in curriculum development, evaluation, or teaching methods;
2. evidence of successful teaching in a college setting;
3. experience in working with diverse, multiethnic student population;
4. ability to instruct using multi media resources, including computers;
5. recent clinical experience in areas of teaching assignment;
6. no restrictions to conducting clinical in acute care facilities on O ahu.
