Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teach one course a semester in gallery management or pertinent area of specialization. Interface with the Museum Studies Program. Develop curriculum. Supervise graduate students. Advise undergraduate students. Participate in the governance of the department.
2. Collaborate with faculty on envisioning creative direction for gallery.
3. Manage department galleries including organizing, designing and installing exhibitions; organizing public programs; supervise staff, students and volunteers; and fundraising and development.
4. Advise faculty, student and professional curators in the organization and realization of exhibitions. Ensure adherence to best curatorial practices and compliance with scheduling and budgetary guidelines.
5. Oversee gallery facilities, equipment and purchases. Make recommendations and oversee improvements.
6. Manage long-term exhibition budgets, monitor expenditures and ensure compliance with institutional fiscal policies.
7. Work within a collaborative academic environment and partner with state and national cultural and community organizations.
8. Other duties as assigned by the Chair.

Minimum Qualifications

1. MFA in studio art, or MA in Curatorial Practice, Museum Studies, Art History or related field, or equivalent.
2. At least three years of experience in museum/gallery management.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Certificate in Museum Studies, MEd, MBA, or PhD in Art History or related field.
2. Experience in gallery/museum work including curatorial practice, exhibition design, budget, fundraising, and development.
3. Experience supervising print publications, websites and e-publications. Experience in preparation of texts, images and editing for design and production.
4. Demonstrated communication and leadership skills.
5. Experience in cultivating a public profile for an institution. Demonstrated ability to act as a spokesperson with local, national and international media outlets and arts communities.
6. Experience overseeing fundraising campaigns including: grant writing, formulating development targets, identifying potential donors and funding sources; cultivating and maintaining relationships with major donors, corporations, and foundations; and collaborating on long-term fundraising plans in consultation with development officers.
7. Record of fostering collaborative projects between university departments and/or cultural institutions.
8. Teaching experience at the college or university level.

Provide concise printed instructions for viewing/listening to time-based or web-based work. These instructions are especially important for reviewing web-based material that the reviewers might otherwise browse randomly. Limit time-based or web-based work to 10 minutes total, the maximum that will be reviewed. Include an inventory that identifies each image or time-based work by title, date, medium, size, and other appropriate information.
