Duties and Responsibilities

1. SOEST is seeking an Assistant Researcher in HIGP to improve the research capabilities of the Institute in the field of Exploration Geophysics, including applied volcanology and geothermal research. To conduct research and analysis related to the sub-surface structure of Hawaiian volcanoes and the relationship between those structures and groundwater and geothermal resources. A researcher with interest and experience in the field analysis of basaltic volcanoes, the interpretation of effusive and explosive deposits, and the processes responsible for major structural and stratigraphic features. Knowledge of the deep groundwater systems associated with basaltic volcanoes is also desirable.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Applicant must have a Ph.D. in physical volcanology, ground water systems of island volcanoes or a closely-related field.
2. A demonstrated record of publications and research productivity which has resulted in significant recognition by the national community of scholars active in the same field.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Interest in collaborating in cross-disciplinary science research including gravity, drilling and magnetotelluric studies of basaltic volcanoes.
